Jonathan Lees - Stamford ward
Jonathan Lees started his career in a bank, then worked in community development with Rosebery Housing Association for several years and now works for a national charity that works with urban communities. His wife Melanie is a Governor of Southfield Park primary school, which their children attend. Jon and Mel are active members of a local church. Jonathan has lived in the area for more than 15 years and has been actively involved in the local community throughout that time, running a focused community project for Young People, establishing residents' forums and serving as a trustee on various trusts. He is chairman of his local residents association and has run youth clubs and children's clubs and served as a school governor and on a variety of local committees concerned with community affairs. On Epsom & Ewell Borough Council (EEBC), Jonathan currently has the following roles:
Jonathan is currently Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat group on the Council, which is the main opposition group on Epsom & Ewell Borough Council. Jonathan has also led the campaign to obtain "Fairtrade Town" status for the Borough. Jonathan Lees is Parliamentary Spokesperson for Epsom & Ewell Liberal Democrats and was their Parliamentary Candidate in the 2005 General Election. He has been actively involved in the Lib Dem petitions "Hands Off our Back Gardens", "Axe the Council Tax" and "Abolish Tuition Fees". Jonathan also spearheaded the Lib Dem survey about parking restrictions in South Street and the High Street in Epsom, the results of which led to the improved flow of through traffic. His most important campaign has involved sharing a platform with the spokesmen for the other political parties, with the common aim of retaining the full range of medical services at Epsom General Hospital.
