Possible uses for Hook Road Arena include a Steam Fair

When the borough council were unable to decide upon how to better make use of Hook Road Arena (HRA), Lib Dem councillors led the way on trialling a number of options for a period of 15 months.

An excellent report from the council's Head of Venues was presented to the Leisure Committee on 15th June. It listed the kinds of events which could be staged at HRA. Some examples are : a steam fair, car club meetings, open air concerts, corporate days, open air cinema, Christmas party venue, sporting use, filming base unit. With the ruling Residents' Party dithering on how to move forward on the subject, Lib Dem councillors suggested the council would "approve events of the type listed for a period until October 2009, after which income generation and the effect on the community will be reviewed".

This was agreed.
