Parking Enforcement and Yellow Lines come to Epsom2.58.11pm GMT Sat 18th Nov 2006
Our campaign for more parking restrictions and better enforcement is at last showing signs of success. New parking restrictions in and around Epsom are phases one and two of a four phase programme being put in place by the county council but which is currently running six months late. Parking restrictions, particularly double yellow lines which mean no parking at any time, don't always please everyone, and there was a good deal of debate about South Street. The most important considerations have to be safety and the rights of local residents. Cllr Colin Taylor formally asked the borough council about parking enforcement and was told there are usually 8 or 9 wardens covering all the borough's streets and car parks. Clearly not enough, but better than the one warden employed a year or so ago. Epsom & Ewell Lib Dems would still like to see a residents' parking scheme for those who want it. More details of phases three and four of the county's plans are available from Colin Taylor or Cllr Nigel Pavey who attend the Local Committee (the joint borough/county body which deals with highway issues).
