Surrey County Council Elections 5th May8.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 5th Apr 2005
The battle for places on the new 80-seat County Council goes into top gear as nominations close later this week. This is expected to be the last set of councillors to hold their meetings at the historic County Hall in Kingston upon Thames, which is nowadays outside the administrative county of Surrey. The new building in Woking is intended to come into use before the end of 2007. The full lists of candidates for the 5 Divisions in the borough of Epsom & Ewell will not be declared for another week, but already some details are beginning to emerge as the campaign gets under way, ahead of the widely expected calling of a General Election. The Liberal Democrat group on the County Council launched their "Programme of Action for Surrey 2005 - 2009" in March.
