Vandalised and abandoned cars are a problem in Epsom & Ewell

Epsom & Ewell's Conservative MP Chris Grayling is under fire from the Liberal Democrats for opposing important measures to help councils protect the local environment. The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Bill will grant tough new powers to tackle litter bugs, fly-tippers, fly-posters and other types of antisocial and criminal behaviour that damage the environment. However Conservative MPs including Mr Grayling voted to reject this important Bill

Lib Dem parliamentary spokesperson for Epsom & Ewell, Cllr Jonathan Lees said: "Our Conservative MP has let down local residents, communities and businesses who are suffering from fly-tipping, graffiti, abandoned cars, etc." He added "It is a problem that we are constantly trying to deal with in Epsom & Ewell. The powers of this new bill would support us in addressing these concerns".

"The Conservatives are rejecting an opportunity to provide much stronger environmental protection in both town and country. They do not understand the importance of a clean and safe local environment to the quality of people's lives."
